Pennsylvania Secretary of State Resigning After Department Failure: Governor

Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar, who is also the commonwealth’s top election official, will resign after the department reportedly failed to advertise a proposed constitutional amendment that would extend the statute of limitations for child sex abuse victims to file against their abusers. Gov. Tom Wolf said her resignation will go into effect on Friday, Feb. 5. The Secretary of State’s office is constitutionally required to advertise a proposed amendment, according to the governor’s office. Wolf stressed that the resignation had nothing to do with the Nov. 3 election in Pennsylvania, which was beset by controversy after former President Donald Trump and surrogates claimed that rampant fraud occurred. “This change at the Department of State has nothing to do with the administration of the 2020 election, which was fair and accurate,” said Wolf.
