Wuhan COVID-19 Whistleblower Doctor Ai Fen Accuses Local Eye Hospital of Malpractice

In the past week, Ai Fen, a doctor in Wuhan who was among the first to alert colleagues about the new COVID-19 disease that was spreading in late 2019, has received attention on Chinese social media for exposing a botched cataract surgery she received at a local eye hospital. Ai, an ophthalmologist and head of the emergency department at Wuhan Central Hospital, posted a video on the social media platform Weibo on Dec. 31, 2020, revealing that she nearly lost her vision in her right eye after receiving cataract surgery at the Wuhan Aier Eye Hospital on May 25. She accused the head surgeon, Wang Yong, and the hospital, of malpractice.
